Some pets pose no problems when they need to travel to the vet. Others find the journey a frightening experience, and it can make it difficult for the pet owner to get the animal to the vet comfortably and efficiently. An item which should be used when the pet is travelling to the vet, or when travelling at any time, is a proper carrier.
The Right Size
Choosing the right size of pet carrier means keeping a few things in mind. First, you want a carrier which is going to be the right dimensions for the size of your pet. If you have a little dog or even a rabbit, then you don’t require a large carrier. Most pets when travelling in their carrier want to feel like they are in a den, which makes them feel safe and secure.
Then, the next thing to consider is the size of the carrier which will fit appropriately in the car. Not only will you be using this carrier for vet visits, but probably for other travel times. At those times, there may be other family members who are travelling so you will want enough room for everyone to travel safely and comfortably.
Keep in mind that you may want or need to take your pet into the vet facility with the animal remaining in the carrier. This means the size is not only going to be essential but the weight of the carrier as well. Even a little pet can be heavy to lift when the weight of the carrier is added to it.
Another important aspect of the carrier is that there is proper ventilation for the pet. Although you may want to block the view of the nervous pet, they still need adequate air, or they will become panicky.
The price will be another consideration and also if the pet is still growing.
